Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the structural strength and the heat insulating performance of a heat insulator comprising an outer plate, an inner plate and a foam material by reducing the inner pressure and setting the rising direction of the foam material perpendicular to the thickness direction. CONSTITUTION: A foaming material 8, e.g. an open cell foaming material, is thrown into a space defined by an outer plate 3 and an inner plate 3 by inserting a nozzle 9 into an opening 11 made at the upper part of the outer plate 2. When the space is filled perpendicularly to the thickness direction A, the cells 10 of the foaming material 8 are oriented and elongated and the heat insulating performance is enhanced because a larger number of cells 10 are arranged per unit length in the thickness direction A. The space is then evacuated from the opening 11 where the foaming material 8 is provided at a part of the outer plate 2 and sealed with a gas barrier sealing material 12, e.g. an aluminum tape. Since the foaming material 8 is integrated with the outer plate 2 and the inner plate 3, excellent structural strength can be ensured.
