Abstract
PURPOSE:To decrease the temp. drop of molten metal and to prevent the recontamination of the molten metal by blowing powder to the molten metal to refine the molten metal and forming a layer of powder which has the sp. gr. smaller than that of the molten metal and larger than that of slag between the molten metal and the slag at the end period of refining. CONSTITUTION:The powder is blown together with a high-pressure gas from a powder tank 4 through an injection lance 6 into the molten metal 2 housed in a ladle 1 to remove the impurities in the molten metal 2 into the slag 3 and to refine the molten metal. The powder of TiN of the like which has the sp. gr. smaller than that of the molten metal 2 and larger than that of the slag 3, is inert in chemical reaction and does not melt is added from a powder tank 5 to the molten metal 2 at the end period of powder blowing in the above- mentioned method for refining the molten metal. This powder floats to form a powder layer 7 between the molten metal 2 and the slag 3. The thickness of the layer 7 is thereafter uniformized by an Air bubbling device 8. The recontamination and suspension contamination of the molten metal are thereby surely prevented and the drop of the molten metal temp. is decreased.
