Abstract
PURPOSE:To uniformly blow carbonaceous material powder into a converter and to heat up the converter without eroding the converter refractories by blowing the carbonaceous material powder through a top blowing lance into the converter and specifying the height of blowing position and the ejection angle of the carbonaceous material powder. CONSTITUTION:Slag is formed in a molten metal 3 housed in the converter 1 and the molten metal is refined by top and bottom blowing. A carbonaceous material powder conveying line 13 is formed on the outside of the top blowing lance 5 which has an O2 line 10, an O2 nozzle for forming an O2 jet 6 and cooling water lines 8, 9 around the same and the carbonaceous material powder 7 such as coal powder, coke powder is blown from the nozzle 12 so that the molten steel 3 is heated up by the combustion thereof in the method for operating the above-mentioned converter 1. The blowing height position Hi of the above-mentioned carbonaceous material powder 7 is set at 0.5-1.1 times the height Ho from the bottom of the furnace up to the throat thereof. Furthermore, the ejection angle of the carbonaceous material powder 7 against the nozzle 12 in the blowing height position Hi is set within a + or -30 deg. range with respect to horizontal. The erosion of the refractories, the decrease in the calory of exhaust gases caused by the decreased content of CO, etc., are thereby prevented without degrading the heating-up function.
