Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a solvent for dry cleaning which is inexpensive and excellent in compatibility with a dry soap, and which comprises a particular hydrocarbon mixture fraction obtd. from a kerosene fraction by hydrogenation, molecular sieving, fractionation, or the like. CONSTITUTION:A kerosene fraction having a b.p. of 150-300 deg.C is hydrogenated in the presence of a metal catalyst for hydrogenation of an aromatic nucleus (e.g., platinum) under a pressure of 10-100kg/cm<2> at 10-300 deg.C. At least part of n-paraffins in a kerosene fraction is separated and removed. The residual oil thus obtd. is fractionated with a rectifying apparatus to obtain a hydrocarbon mixture fraction having a b.p. of 150-210 deg.C and substantially free from naphthalene and biphenyl. This hydrocarbon mixture fraction is used as a component of a solvent for dry cleaning.
