Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce a compound material having high heat resistance, high chemical resistance, and high abrasion resistance causing scarcely crack nor exfoliation by carbonizing carbon fibers contg. specified fine carbonaceous powder dispersed therein in inert gas atmosphere after impregnating pitch thereinto. CONSTITUTION:A carbon fiber bundle is impregnated with a liquid dispersion of fine carbonaceous powder such as graphite, carbon, secondary particles of carbon black, etc. having 12-0.07mu mean particles diameter. Obtd. carbon fibers having fine carbonaceous powder dispersed on the surface or inside are used as a reinforcing material, and pitch is impregnated into the carbon fibers. Then, the product is carbonized in an inert gas atmosphere under atmospheric pressure, and graphitized if necessary, obtg. thus the aimed compound material. preferred particle diameter of the fine carbonaceous powder to be used is 5-0.1mu. Preferred viscosity of the liquid dispersion of the fine carbonaceous powder is 30-0.1 poise. Preferred concn. of the fine carbonaceous powder in the liquid dispersion thereof is 18-0.6wt.%.
