Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve dispersibility of particulate alumina in plastics and rubber, etc., and to enhance the performance of the particulate alumina as reinforcing filler by bonding silica to alumina or a particulate matter contg. alumina and treating the bonded product with a silane treating agent. CONSTITUTION:Silica is bonded to alumina or a particulate matter contg. alumina (abbreviated to particulate alumina hereunder), and the bonded product is treated with a silane treating agent. Examples for the above described particulate alumina are simple substance alumina, clay, talc, kaolin, bentonite, diatomaceous earth, mica, etc. Suitable process for bonding silica to alumina is, for example, a process wherein a dispersion of silica in water or in alcohol (silica sol) is added to aq. suspension contg. particulate alumina or to wet cake, and mixed uniformly at room temp. - 100 deg.C, and dried if necessary after filtration.
