Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable wear resistance and oil impregnation concurrently which conflict with each other in properties by forming a high density section and a low density section respectively at the both end and center sections of a valve guide supporting the sliding motion of a valve stem. CONSTITUTION:A valve guide 1 is used in the engine of an automobile and the like, and comes slidably in contact with the valve stem of a suction and an exhaust valve inserted into the center hole 10 of the valves so as to support the sliding motion of the valve stem. In this case, the valve guide 1 is formed with a high density section 11 composed of the sintered member of a high density iron family at its both ends, at least its inner circumferential surfaces. And it is also formed with a low density section 12 composed of the sintered member of a low density iron family at its center section, at least its inner circumferential surface. And the density of the high density section 11 is set to be equal or more than 6.8g/cm<3>, and the density of the low density section 12 is set to be within a range covering 6.0 to 6.8g/cm<3> respectively.
