Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a sanitary sheet auxiliary material which is a nonwoven fabric prepared by interlacing specific hydrophilic ultrafine synthetic fibers, having dense layers in the front and the back surface parts and further a prescribed reentering index of water and excellent in water retaining power, water holding power and durability in washing. CONSTITUTION: This auxiliary material is a nonwoven fabric prepared by interlacing hydrophilic ultrafine synthetic fibers having <=1 denier single fiber fineness and has dense layers having a lower void content than that of the interior in both the front and the back surface parts and <=1.0×10<-2> g/cm<2> reentering index of water. The hydrophilic ultrafine synthetic fibers are preferably composed by directly introducing hydrophilic functional groups (most preferably hydrohilized by plasma treatment) or a compound having the functional groups (most preferably an acidic group-containing polymer or a polymer having alkylene glycol units) into at least the surfaces of the fibers.
