Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently compress a picture to the type of an input picture and to increase the number of the recording pictures of an optical disk device by disposing a vertical address control part and a switching device between a picture memory and a CPU bus. CONSTITUTION:According to an instruction from a key board 12, digital picture data read by a picture scanner 1 and written in the picture memory 3 is converted to a video signal by a display interface 4, and displayed on a display 5. At this time, a parameter indicating the type (vertical writing or horizontal writing) of the display picture is inputted from the keyboard 12, thereby, the signal of a vertical address control part 7 is applied to the memory 3 through the switching device 8 in the case of the vertical writing and the data is fed to a compression/extension part 9 for every column by the picture and the signal of a horizontal address control part 6 is similarly applied to the memory 3 and fed to the compression/extension part 9 for every row, in the case of the horizontal writing, respectively. The compressed picture data herein is recorded on the optical disk device 11 together with the parameter. The recorded data is extended, transferred to the memory 3 to reproduce the same picture as an original picture in the display 5.
