Abstract

PURPOSE:To carry out surface modification of an inorganic substance with excellent dispersibility in organic media, water and solvent resistance and suppressed surface activity, by adding a specific amino acid compound to the inorganic substance and blending both while heating. CONSTITUTION:One or more compounds expressed by the formula (R and R' are 1-22C and alkyl or alkenyl having total 9-44 carbon atoms. of both) in an amount of 0.1-20pts.wt. (preferably 0.2-5pts.wt.) are added to an inorganic substance, such as silica, alumina, titanium dioxide or magnesium hydroxide. Both are then blended under condition of heating at 50 deg.C- the decomposition temperature of the above-mentioned compounds or below to modify the surface of the inorganic substance. Furthermore, the compounds expressed by the formula can be readily produced by the Michael addition reaction, e.g. maleic anhydride is reacted and esterified with an alcohol and then an amine is reacted.
