Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An optically active alcohol of formula I [R1, R2 are H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower haloalkyl, lower haloalkoxy, lower alkenyl, lower alkenyloxy, where they are not H simultaneously; R1 and R2 may bind to each other to form methylenedioxy, lower alkylene, ethyleneoxy which may be substituted with lower alkyl; * represents asymmetric carbon]. EXAMPLE:(R)-(+)-2-(4-Ethoxyphenyl)-3,3,3-trifluoropropanol. USE:An intermediate which can advantageously give an optically active ether having excellent insecticidal and acaricidal activities. PREPARATION:The reduction of a compound of formula I (Y is OH, lower alkoxy, halogen) gives the compound of formula I. The compound of formula I is allowed to react with 3-phenoxybenzyl bromide to give the compound having insecticidal and acaricidal activities.
