Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve interpolation efficiency, by arranging basic image element data in five-mesh grid shape, taking out a difference between interpolation data and image data corresponding to a block, and applying transform encoding on a taken out difference by a prescribed threshold value. CONSTITUTION:Sampled basic image data is inputted to an interpolation filter 5 at the next stage, and also, it is inputted to a multiplexer 9. At a mode decision circuit 7 at the next stage, an interpolation remainder is compared with a certain threshold value, and no transform encoding of the interpolation remainder is performed on the block whose interpolation remainder is smaller than the threshold value, and the transform encoding of interpolation remainder data are applied on the blocks other than that by a transform encoder 8, and transform encoded data is inputted to the multiplexer 9. In the multiplexer 9, one bit of mode information which represents the presence/absence of the transform encoding at every block from the mode decision circuit 7 and the transform encoded data from the transform encoder 8 and the basic image element data from a basic image element sub-sampling circuit 4 are multiplexed, and encoded data is sent after completing encoding.
