Abstract

PURPOSE:To surely transit phases between crystalline and amorphous phases in the part of a recording layer irradiated with a light beam by forming the recording layer of an alloy which is constituted of >=2 elements and in which the mixing enthalpy of the liquid phase is lower than the mixing enthalpy of the solid phase at room temp. CONSTITUTION:A protective layer 12, the recording layer 13, a protective layer 14 and an outside protective layer are formed on a substrate 11 consisting of a polycarbonate resin, etc. The recording layer 13 is constituted of the alloy having the compsn. InXSbYTeZ and the values of X, Y, Z are so adjusted that the mixing enthalpy of the liquid phase exhibits the value smaller than the prescribed value. Since this prescribed value is lower than the mixing enthalpy of the solid phase, the phases can be surely transited between the crystalline and amorphous phases in the part of the recording layer irradiated with the light beam. Recording and erasing are, therefore, satisfactorily executed with the recording layer of an information recording medium of the type to record and erase the information by utilizing the phase transition between the crystalline and amorphous phases, by adequately selecting the alloy structure of said recording layer.
