Abstract
PURPOSE:To securely obtain depth information even if the luminance level smoothly changes such as a natural moving image by detecting the characteristic quantities of respective minute areas in picked up image, detecting corresponding points based on the characteristic quantities and obtaining depth information. CONSTITUTION:The titled processor is provided with characteristic quantity detection circuits PRER, PREC, PREL, 43R, 43C and 43L detecting the characteristic quantities DFR, DFC and DFL which show the characteristics of respective areas S, a corresponding point detection circuit 47 outputting parallex data DF0-DF5 of inter-fine area S which have the same characteristic quantities and a depth map generation circuit 60 outputting depth information DF(n) to image pickup devices 31R, 31C and 31L. As for the fine areas S in the picked up images MR1, MC1 and ML1, the characteristic quantities DFR, DFC and DFL are detected, and accordingly the corresponding points are detected, whereby parallex data DF0-DF5 are obtained. Thus, depth information DF(n) can securely be obtained even if an object to be measured is a natural body.
