Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve a higher distance measuring accuracy with the same effect as an increase in the number of clock pulses, by employing two clock pulse oscillators slightly different in the oscillation frequency. CONSTITUTION:An oscillation interval of a laser oscillator 1 is controlled by a signal obtained by dividing the frequency of a pulse signal oscillated from a clock pulse oscillator 2 with a frequency dividing circuit 3. A laser light from the laser oscillator 1 is made to irradiate a target object 10 through a transmitting/receiving optical system 4. Reflected light on the target object 10 is converted into an electrical signal with a photo detector 5 through the transmitting/receiving optical system 4 and then, sent to a counting circuit 5. The counting circuit 6 is started to count a pulse from a clock pulse oscillator 7 by a signal synchronizing with a laser oscillation from a laser oscillator 1 until stopped by a signal from the photo detector 5. The oscillation frequency of the clock pulse oscillators 2 and 7 is differentiated by 1/1,000 or less of the clock frequency beforehand.
