Abstract

PURPOSE:To execute an exact tracking control by detecting independently a 0th-order light, detecting an optical axis shift quantity which follows up a displacement of a moving optical system, and correcting a track signal. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is provided with a four-split photodetector 25 provided with each light receiving area 25A, 25B for detecting a track signal by receiving a + 1st order light and a - 1st order light in a reflected light from a track of an optical information recording medium 1, and two-split light receiving areas 25C, 25D for detecting an optical axis shift quantity for correcting an offset of a track signal by receiving a 0th-order light in the reflected light from the track. By using this photodetector 25, the optical axis shift quantity is detected from the 0th-order light 20 received by the light receiving areas 25C, 25D, a correction is applied to the track signal received and detected by the light receiving areas 25A, 25B, and the track signal which has cancelled an offset is obtained. In such a way, even if an offset is generated in the track signal, its influence can be eliminated, and an exact tracking control can be executed.
