Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a head creaking and to improve disk durability by supporting elastically a magnetic head with a gimbal part and fixing a part of a damper to absorb the oscillation of the gimbal part to approximately the center position on the rear face of the gimbal part. CONSTITUTION:A damper material 3 is fixed on a core part 1a protruded from a gimbal part 2 which supports a magnetic head 1. The damper material 3 is the rod body of a viscoelastic material such as urethane foam and absorbs the oscillation of the gimbal part 2 which generates the rotational oscillation in a pitching direction. Moreover, the damper material 3 never inhibits the flexibility of the gimbal part 2 since the damper material 3 is long, narrow, and flexible sufficiently. Next, the shape of the damper material 3 is not limitted to the rod body; a cruciform damper, which privents pitching-direction oscillation and rolling-direction oscillation, and a thin plate damper are also available. As the material for the damper, not only the urethane foam but also any viscoelastic material such as rubber are suitable. By constitution like this, the head creaking can be prevented, and the disk durability can be improved.
