Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently sterilize the bacteria in water by the construction consisting in alternately superposing carbon cloths and insulating ion exchange membranes, housing the cloths and membranes into a sterilizing reactor body and passing the water to the carbon cloths in contact therewith while impressing potential to the carbon cloths. CONSTITUTION:The carbon cloths 3 and the ion exchange membranes 4 are alternately superposed and housed into the sterilizing reactor body 2. The potential (for example, 0.7V) is impressed to the carbon cloths 3 and the sample water to be sterilized is lifted in this state from a liquid storage tank 5 by a pump 6 and is passed in contact with the carbon cloths 3, by which the coliform bacillia or general bacteria are sterilized. The sterilized water is then stored in a treated liquid tank 7. The sterilization is executed by impressing the low voltage to the carbon cloths 3 as an electrode in such a manner, by which the consumption of energy is reduced and the secondary pollution by drugs is averted.
