Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the transmission of high-speed signals without loss on an optical integrated circuit by considering an active element part and progressive wave line part as one integrated progressive wave transmission system and providing a specified intrinsic characteristic impedance to this progressive wave transmission system. CONSTITUTION:The progressive wave line part 2 and the active element part 3 are formed on a substrate 1 and the active element part 3 is constructed by inserting part thereof into the progressive wave line part 2. The progressing wave line part 2 and the active element part 3 can be integrated to the transmission impedance of one progressive wave transmission system by adequately combining the progressive wave line part 2 and the circuit constant of the active element part 3 according to this construction, by which the intrinsic characteristic impedance is provided to the progressive wave transmission system. The signals are, therefore, regarded to propagate the progressive wave transmission system having the intrinsic characteristic impedance and consequently, the circuit constant of the progressive wave line part 2 and the circuit constant of the active element part 3 are so selected that the intrinsic characteristic impedance consists of pure resistance. The ultra-high-speed signals are thereby propagated without receiving waveform deterioration.
