Abstract

PURPOSE:To stably prepare an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer with a good working efficiency without contamination of working environment, by continuously reacting p-phenylene isocyanate with a compd. contg. at least 2 active hydrogen atoms. after injected into a multi-screw extruder using respective metering feeders. CONSTITUTION:Predetermined amts. of p-phenylene diisocyanate (A) and a compd. (B) contg. at least 2 active hydrogen atoms. and having an average MW of 62-6,000, such as a polyether-polyol or a polyester-polyol, are injected, if necessary together with predetermined amts. of a catalyst, an antioxidizing agent, an ultraviolet absorber, a surfactant, a lubricant, etc., (C), into a multi- screw extruder such as an equidirectionally rotary, complete engagement type twin-screw extruder using respective metering feeders to continuously effect a reaction to stably prepare a prepolymer contg. 2-20wt.% isocyanate groups at terminals.
