Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain extremely homogeneous glass by controlling the revolving position of the stirrer while a glass melt is being stirred therewith in a melter to carry out effective agitation even said melt is highly viscous at high temperatures. CONSTITUTION:When a glass melt is to be stirred using a stirrer 1 in a glass melter 3, the revolving position (the shaft center 2) of the stirrer 1 is biased from the center 5 of the melter and, in addition, said position is shifted (e.g. to a shaft center 2a) during stirring. It is preferable that said shifting be intermittent and the stirrer revolution stopped at the time of shifting. Furthermore, the revolving position 2 of the stirrer 1 is pref. concentrically shifted against the center 5 of the melter 3.
