Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate a need for an aperture which extends in a moving direction of an optical element assembling body by arranging the front-side and the rear-side transmitting mechanisms of a driving means and a common driving source between the front-side and the rear-side perpendicular substrates in a width direction. CONSTITUTION:In a scanning optical device 48, not only a 1st optical element assembling body 54 and a 2nd optical element assembling body 60 but also all the driving means 110, that means, not only the common driving source 112 but also most of entities of the front-side transmitting mechanism 114a and most of entities of the rear-side transmitting mechanism 114b, are arranged between the front-side perpendicular substrate 70 and the rear-side perpendicular substrate in the width direction. Then, electrical apparatus mounted on the outer surface of the front-side perpendicular substrate and/or the rear-side perpendicular substrate does not prevent the winding operation of wires 126a and 126b. Thus, the need for the aperture which extends in the directions shown with arrows 96 and 98 on the front-side perpendicular substrate and rear-side perpendicular substrate can be evaded.
