Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject nonwoven fabric excellent in carding machine passability, web formability, and interlaceability by needle punching, and suitable as a leathery material by applying a specific mixed lubricant onto a multicomponent fiber consisting of a plurality of polymers. CONSTITUTION: This nonwoven fabric is obtained by the following process: (A) a multicomponent fiber such as sheath-core type fiber or side-by-side type fiber is produced using a combination of at least two kinds of polymer differing in physical or chemical properties from each other and not mutually impairing their spinnability or fiber performance is fiber forming process (e.g. polyamide, polyurethane, polyethylene terephthalate) and the subjected to drawing and heat treatment; subsequently (B) a mixed lubricant prepared by mixing together at least two kinds of lubricant (e.g. silicone-based one, acetal-based one) differing in fiber/fiber dynamic coefficient of friction from each other so as to afford a dynamic coefficient of friction of 0.25-0.45 is applied to the resulting fiber so as to be 0.5-2.5 wt.% in pickup followed by crimping and cutting the fiber into staples which, in turn, are opened into a fibrous web.
