Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the absorption of neutron which is the background from a neutron source by disposing a thermal neutron absorption plate having an aperture through which the thermal neutron can pass between a moderator and a fuel rod. CONSTITUTION:The inside of a housing 11 of a fuel rod inspection part 2 consists of a ray source moderator part 12 and a detecting part 13. The ray source moderator part 12 has a housing tank 16 for housing a neutron source 14 and a neutron moderator 15. The detecting part 13 is provided with a measuring hole 17 provided to a conveying path 7 and a thermal neutron detector 18. The fast-neutron from the neutron source 14 is moderated in the neutron moderator 15 and is thermalized. The fissionable materials such as <235>U and <239>Pu contained in the fuel rod 6 cause nuclear fission and generate secondary neutron and secondary r rays when the thermalized thermal neutron is projected to the fuel rod existing in the measuring hole 17. The generated neutron is counted by a thermal neutron detector 18. The thermal neutron absorption plate 19 prevents the neutron from the neutron source 14 which is the background from directly entering the thermal neutron detector 18.
