Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a hardened coating film imparting a coated object such as automobile or electrical appliance with excellent corrosion resistance, especially corrosion resistance at the edge and filiform corrosion resistance, by using a cationic electrodeposition paint produced by compounding a polymer and a pigment at a specific ratio and carrying out electrodeposition with the paint using the coating object as a cathode. CONSTITUTION:A cationic electrodeposition paint is produced by compounding (A) 100g of a polymer (e.g., amine-added epoxy polymer) with (B) 1,000-10,000g (in terms of total oil-absorption) of a pigment (e.g., anhydrous silicon dioxide) wherein at least 5wt.% of the pigment has an oil absorption of >=100. Electrodeposition coating is performed with the obtained paint by using a coating object as a cathode. Since the corrosion resistance of the edge part of the coating object can be remarkably improved, the process can be applied to a corrosion- protection coating in a wide variety of industrial paint fields.
