Abstract

PURPOSE:To preclude picture deterioration such as fogging and an irregularity in density due to a paper trace without causing the sensitivity shift of a recording body by reducing the output of a transfer means and optimally controlling a transfer electrostatic charging quantity while a no-image area on the recording body faces a transfer means. CONSTITUTION:The recording body which is charged electrostatically by an electrostatic charging means 310 for charging the recording body uniformly is exposed to form an electrostatic latent image. Then this electrostatic latent image is developed and the developed image on the recording body is transferred by the transfer means 305 to a transfer material. Then while the no-image area on the recording body faces the transfer means 305, a control means 203 controls one of plural high-voltage generating circuits 214 for the no-image area on the recording body to reduce a transfer current. Consequently, neither the fogging nor image irregularity due to paper tracing is caused and the sensitivity shift of the recording body is precluded.
