Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce large-sized glass free from warps and cracks by converting sol into gel, subjecting this wet gel to specified treatment, drying and sintering the gel. CONSTITUTION:Sol obtd. from metal alcoholates and fine metal oxide particles as principal starting materials is converted into gel. This wet gel is immersed in a soln. of the metal alcoholates (after hydrolysis), a dispersion liq. contg. the fine metal oxide particles or sol as a precursor of the wet gel to fill the pores in the wet gel with the effective components. The gel is then dried and sintered.
