Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the manipulation of a paper feed device and to eliminate the necessity of an exclusive hopper so as to aim at reducing the cost of a paper feed device by enabling the position of a lever having a paper separating pawl to be changed over so as to commonly use a hopper irrespective of the thickness of sheets to be used. CONSTITUTION:When thin sheets 21 are conveyed, the flat surface of the semi- circular cam shaft 15 is directed downward so that the dead weight of a lever 13 allows its pawl 12 to press the sheets 21 at one end part of the upper surface of the sheets 21, and to hook them. In this condition, when a pick-up roller 17 rotates in the direction of the arrow, the sheets 21 are separated successively from the uppermost thereof by means of the lever 13, and are fed to a recording device. When thicker sheets 22 such as postcards or the like, are fed, the curved surface of the semicircular cam shaft 15 is directed downward so as to make contact with the lever 13, and accordingly, the pawl 13 side of the lever 13 ascends so that the sheets 22 are fed directly into the recording device without making contact with the lever 13. Accordingly, both thin sheets and thick sheets may be processed by use of only a hopper incorporated in the paper feed device.
