Abstract

PURPOSE:To execute a stable tracking operation without generating an offset, by radiating plural laser beam spots to a recording medium, leading its reflected light into a waveguide formed on a substrate, detecting the light intensity at every reflected light corresponding to each spot and bringing it to photoelectric conversion, comparing its light receiving outputs and detecting a tracking error signal. CONSTITUTION:On a glass substrate 1 of an optical information processor, an optical waveguide layer 2 is formed, and a converging grating coupler 3 and a grating beam splitter 5 are formed through a clad layer. Also, on the substrate 1, tri-sected photodetectors 6, 7 and photodetectors 8, 9 are formed. In this state, three emitted light beams from a semiconductor laser 11 are made incident on the coupler 3 in parallel, and by a zero-order diffracted light passing through the coupler 3, a spot is formed on an optical disk 14. A reflected light from its spot becomes a waveguide light to the layer 2 by the coupler 3, differentials of the center part and both end parts are detected by the detectors 6, 7, and by comparing its differentials, a focus error signal is detected.
