Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A benzimidazole derivative expressed by formula I (R is H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or nitro; A is imidazole group or 1,2,4- triazole group). EXAMPLE:2-(Imidazo-1-yl)-5-chlorobenzimidazole. USE:Useful as an agricultural and horticultural germicide, capable of widely acting as the agricultural and horticultural germicide on various disease injuries of cereals, vegetables and fruit trees and exhibiting controlling effects and effective especially against blast of rice plant, powdery mildew of cucumber and brown leaf rust of wheat in a small amount of chemical without phytotoxicity to crops, problems in humans, animals, fishes and shellfishes and environmental pollution. PREPARATION:A 2-halobenzimidazole expressed by formula II is reacted with imidazole or 1,2,4-triazole expressed by formula III in the presence or absence of an organic solvent while being warmed, preferably at about 110-180 deg.C to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
