Abstract

PURPOSE:To control a pressure loss and improve the performance of a fuel cell without changing substantially a passage reaction area and a passage area over a wide range of a gas flow rates by arranging separators forming gas passages in the cell or electrode ribs at an angle with a gas inflow direction. CONSTITUTION:A cathode gas passage 13 comprises a separator plate rib 2 and a cathode electrode 8, and the rib 2 is so fitted as to be sloped toward the side of an anode gas inflow manifold 5 by an angle of thetaC from the flow 9 of an inflow cathode gas 11. This inflow anode gas 11 enters at an inlet manifold 5 and flows in a gas passage 15 formed with a separator plate rib 14 aslant by an angle of thetaA from the direction of the inflow gas and an anode electrode 16. And the gas 11 leaves an outlet manifold 6 as an outgoing gas flow 12. By changing an angle between the rib and the gas inflow direction, the pressure loss of the gas passage can be controlled over a wide range of gas flow rates and it is possible to prevent the occurrence of a large pressure difference due to a gas flow rate between a fuel electrode and an oxidant electrode.
