Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound which is useful as a coupler for silver salt color photography in low costs in high yield with reduced by-products by subjecting an N-pyrazolylamide oxime bearing a substituent in the 4-position to ring closure reaction. CONSTITUTION:An N-pyrazolylamide oxime of formula I (R1 is H, substituent; R2 is substitutent other than aryloxy and amino groups; R3 is H, alkyl, aryl, heteroring) such as an amide oxime of formula II is subjected to dehydrative ring closure reaction, preferably in the presence of a base using a suitable dehydrating agent to give 1H-pyrazolo[1,5-b]-1,2,4-triazole derivative of formula III such as a compound of formula IV. The compound of formula I is obtained by allowing a compound of formula I to react with an orthoester or imidate followed by reaction with hydroxylamine.
