Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve desilverability and to suppress color stain by adding a specified amt. of bromide ions and/or a specified amt. of iodide ions and a specified optical whitening agent to a bleach-fix bath contg. a ferric complex salt of an org. acid. CONSTITUTION:1X10<-2>-2mol./l bromide ions and/or 5X10<-4>-5X10<-2>mol./l iodide ions and an optical whitening agent represented by the formula are added to a bleach-fix bath contg. a ferric complex salt of an org. acid. In the formula, each of R1-R4 is hydroxy, alkoxy, etc., and M is a univalent cation, but in case of R1=R3 and R2=R4 or of R1=R4 and R2=R3, no effect is produced. The bleach-fix bath produces a remarkable effect when benzyl alcohol is not practically present in a sensitive material in which silver chlorobromide particles contg. >=80mol.% silver chloride or silver chloride particles are present or in a color developing soln. used. By the combination of the ions with the whitening agent, desilverability is remarkably improved and color stain is effectively prevented.
