Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve life of electrooptical effect movement and electric field response rate, by adding a charge-transfer complex to a liquid crystal material exhibiting chiral smectic C phase. CONSTITUTION:Electric field response rate of a liquid crystal is improved e.g. by adding (B) charge-transfer complex such as tetracyanoquinodimethane to (A) a liquid crystal material exhibiting chiral smectic C phase such as (S)-5-n- octyl-2-[4-(6-methyloctyloxy)phenyl]pyridine. The component B is preferably added at an amount of 0.1 - several %.
