NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R is 2W12C straight- chain alkyl; R' is 1W20C straight-chain alkyl or 1W20C straight-chain alkoxy; C* is asymmetric carbon; ring A is formula II or formula III; X and Y are H or F (provide that they are not simultaneously F)].
USE: An electrooptical display material capable of minimizing temperature dependence of threshold voltage of a nematic liquid crystal composition generally used by adding a small amount of the above-mentioned compound to the liquid crystal composition.
PREPARATION: A compound expressed by formula II is reacted with an optically active tosylate expressed by formula III in a solvent such as dimethylsulfoxide in the presence of a base to provide the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
