Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an artificial blood vessel excellent in bio-compatibility, by mainly constituting said artificial blood vessel of extremely fine fibers having a specific dimension or less and covering the inner surface thereof with a bio-absorbable polymer to provide temporary antithrombogenic function thereto and setting fray coefficient after the removal of the bio-absorbable polymer to a specific value or more. CONSTITUTION:An artificial blood vessel is mainly constituted of extremely fine fibers of 0.5 denier or less. By making the fibers extremely fine, a bio-absorbable polymer can be uniformly, thinly and well applied and living cells are rapidly and strongly formed to make it possible to form a uniform well pseudo-endothelium to the inner surface of the artificial blood vessel. As the bio-absorbable polymer to which antithrombogenicity is imparted, polyethylene terephthalate, polybutylene terephthalate or polyester such as a copolymer obtained by introducing a hydrophilic group such as a sulfone group, a carboxyl group or an acrylamide group into said polymers are especially pref. The artificial blood vessel can be formed by a direct method using weaving, knitting, braiding or non-weaving but, when fray coefficient is set to 500 or more, a margin to sew up at a sewing time can be reduced and smooth anastomosis and suturing become possible.
