Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a hydrophilicity-imparting agent that contains a specific fatty acid ester and an alkyl phosphate and can give polyolefin fibers highly durable hydrophilicity. CONSTITUTION: The objective hydrophilicity-imparting agent comprising (A) 40-90 wt.% of a sorbitol tri-fatty acid ester, (B) 5-40 wt.% of a propylene glycol fatty acid ester that is solid at normal temperature or a polyoxyalkanol alkylamino fatty acid ester, (C) 5-20 wt.% of an alkyl phosphate is applied to olefinic fibers in an amount of 0.1-1.5 wt.%. The olefinic fibers are given durable hydrophilicity to water by this treatment to develop smooth process passage in fiber production steps and in textile-processing steps. In a preferred embodiment, the component A comprises 0-50 wt.% of a sorbitol tri-fatty acid ester and 50-100 wt.% of a polyoxyalkylenesorbitol tri-fatty acid ester in which the fatty acids of these esters have 16-22 carbon atoms, while the alkyl groups in the component C have 8-14 carbon atoms.
