Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a single linearly polarized laser of high efficiency and stable output by providing an optical fiber polarizer which is constituted by coiling a polarization support fiber containing rare earth ions in its coil. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber polarizer 6 which is constituted by coiling a polarization plane support fiber 1 in the center part of an optical cavity 8 is arranged. Two dielectric mirrors 9a, 9b which have high reflectance in the wave length of laser ongoing at both ends of a fiber 1 are installed. Intro duced optical pumping light is resonated in the polarizer 6 by the mirrors 9a, 9b attached to both the ends of the fiber 1. After the rare earth ions contained in a core 2 are excited by the optical pumping light in the polarizer 6, laser light having a fixed wave length is oscillated. The wave length of the laser light is polarized into single straight line polarized light by polarizing action of the fiber 1.
