Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a storage battery of a high discharge capacity and a long service life by using a hydrogen absorption electrode which furnishes a metallic material with a specific alloy phase as the main hydrogen absorption/exhaust material. CONSTITUTION:This hydrogen absorption electrode furnishes at least a metallic material including the alloy phase shown as the general composition formula: Zralpha Vbeta Nigamma Mdelta (where alpha, beta, gamma, and delta, are the respective atomic ratioes of elements Zr, V, Ni, and M, alpha=0.5 to 1.5, beta= 0.01 to 1.2, gamma=0.4 to 2.5, and delta=0.01 to 1.8, beta+gamma+delta=1.2 to 3.7, and M is one or more elements selected from Mg, Ca, Y, Hf, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, Ti, W, Mn, Fe, Co, Pb, Cu, AG, Au, Zn, Cd, Al, In, Sn, Bi, La, Ce, Mm, Pr, Nd, and Th) as the main hydrogen absorption/exhaust material.
