PURPOSE:To realize an easy and secure method of detecting the insertion of an electric component by a method wherein, after the leads of a leaded electric component are inserted into the insertion holes of a circuit board and the leads protruding from the rear surface of the board are bent, the component holding force of a chuck is predetermined to be only the actuating force of an actuating means and, further, when the chuck is removed from the board and claws are closed, an open-and-close detecting means detects the closing state of the claws and confirms the insertion and, when the detecting means detects the opening state of the claws, the insertion failure is recognized. CONSTITUTION:As for an operation of confirming an insertion of electronic components, for instance, in the state wherein an air-chuck 7 is made to ascend while clinching claws 13 are closed, an electric component 14 is pressed against a board 16 by the clinching claws 13 and does not ascend with the air-chuck 7. If a solenoid 2 is operated, claws 10 and 11 are closed. At that time, a proximity switch 8 detects the facing claw 11 and is turned to ON state and the insertion is confirmed.
