Abstract

PURPOSE:To inexpensively obtain the title fine antimony oxide powder having low cohesiveness with a simple process by allowing antimony oxide to react with an aliphatic polyhydric alcohol to dissolve the oxide, then hydrolyzing the reaction product, separating the obtained deposit, and drying the deposit. CONSTITUTION:Antimony oxide is allowed to react with an aliphatic polyhydric alcohol (e.g., ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol), and dissolved. The reaction temp. is appropriately controlled to about 140-270 deg.C, and the ratio in equivalents of the aliphatic polyhydric alcohol to the antimony oxide is adjusted to >=about 30. The liq. reaction product is added with water and hydrolyzed, the obtained deposit is separated by filtration, etc. and dried, and fine antimony oxide powder having low cohesiveness is obtained. In addition, the filtrate after hydrolysis is distilled to remove water and can be reused as the aliphatic polyhydric alcohol of the raw material.
