Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve bonding and heat resistant properties of an aluminum layer by applying gamma-Al2O3 on alpha-Al2O3 whisker formed on an Al layer by means of heating a clad material constituted of laminated Al sheets on the surface of steel. CONSTITUTION:Al sheets are laminated on one surface or both surfaces of stainless steel and pressure welded under the condition or room temperature of -60 deg.C and total pressure rate of 10-70% to form a clad material. A substrate for catalyst carrier is prepared by applying gamma-Al2O3 on alpha-Al2O3 whisker after said alpha-Al2O3 whisker is formed on an aluminum layer by heating said clad material. Stainless steel containing 3-30wt.% of Cr, 0.2wt.% or less of carbon, 2wt.% or less of Mn and 5wt.% or less of Si and containing iron and impurities for the rest part is suitable. Said stainless steel containing 1wt.% or less of one kind of more of Ti, Nb, V and Zr can also be used.
