DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a powder developer presence/absence detection device, and more particularly to a developer presence/absence detection device for a developing unit used in an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine or a recording machine.

Conventionally, various methods have been proposed for this type of detection device. For example, as a detection means for a powder developer (hereinafter abbreviated as developer), a light detection means, a magnetic detection means, a weight detection means, etc. have been commonly used. Recently, as another detection means, a detection plate that changes the vibration state when the developer comes into contact with it is installed at a predetermined level position in the developing device, and the vibration state of the detection plate is electrically detected. Detection means is provided for detecting whether or not the amount of water exceeds a predetermined level.

Although this detection device has a simpler configuration than the other detection means described above, it is likely to cause false detection. That is, the first
As shown in the figure, the detection plate 3 of the detector 2 attached to the developer box 1 is arranged vertically in the developer box 1, or as shown in Fig. 2, the detection plate 3 is placed slightly downward with respect to the vertical plane. This is the arranged configuration. Therefore, when the developer 4 facing the detection plate 3 solidifies to form a void or a portion 5 with an apparently light specific gravity, it is detected that the developer 4 is “absent” even though it is “present” due to this portion 5. It's something you end up doing.

Therefore, in order to eliminate this false detection, the detection plate 3 was arranged with its detection surface slightly tilted upward, but this time, the developer 4 would solidify and not fall from the vibrating surface. Sometimes it is detected that there is something even though it is not there.

The purpose of the present invention is to solve the problem of false detection caused by agglomeration of developer on the detection surface when the detection plate 3 is arranged with the detection surface slightly inclined upward as in the latter case. ,
A powder developer stirring member is provided that rotates in contact with the upwardly inclined detection plate detection surface or rotates while maintaining a gap that prevents the developer from agglomerating on the detection surface.

FIG. 3 shows one embodiment, in which the detection plate 3 is tilted at α° with respect to the vertical plane and its detection surface is placed upward, and the powder developer stirring rod 6 is inserted while maintaining a gap d with respect to the detection surface. Rotate. Intermittent rotation is effective for this rotation,
For example, it is swung approximately 30 degrees at intervals of 1 to 5 seconds.

As a result of the experiment, no false detection occurred when the above-mentioned gap d was in the range of 1 to 0.3 mm and the inclination angle α was in the range of 2 to 6 degrees. Further, it is also possible to use a flexible member as the stirring rod 6 and rotate the flexible member in contact with the detection plate 3 to prevent the developer from coagulating on the detection surface.

Since the present invention has the above-mentioned configuration, it is possible to prevent the developer from agglomerating on the detection surface of the detection plate, and also to prevent the formation of voids or portions 5 of apparent light specific gravity in the developer facing the detection surface. Therefore, it is possible to accurately detect whether or not the developer in the developing device is at a predetermined level or higher without error.
