Abstract
PURPOSE:To heat-treat a pipe stock at a low cost without producing oily residue by heating the pipe stock under a non-oxidizable atmosphere to evaporate stuck oil and circulating non-oxidizable gas in the pipe to remove oily vapor. CONSTITUTION:The pipe stock is heated under a non-oxidizable atmosphere over the evaporating temperature of oil in the lubricant stuck on the pipe stuck obtained by rolling or drawing. Hereby, oil on the inner surface of the pipe stock is evaporated. Then, non-oxidizable gas is circulated in the pipe from one pipe end. Reducing gas or inert gas is suitable for this non-oxidizable gas. Hereby, oily vapor is removed without burning the oil in the pipe and oxidizing the pipe stock. Thereafter, the pipe stock is heated at a prescribed temperature for heat treatment.
