Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolymer of low Li content, outstanding in transparency and devitrification resistance, by copolymerization, in a hydrocarbon solvent, between a conjugated diene and vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon using an organolithium compound as the initiator followed by stripping the resultant product together with a phosphoric ester etc. CONSTITUTION:A copolymerization is carried out in a hydrocarbon solvent, between a conjugated diene and vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon using an organolithium compound as the initiator followed by adding at least one kind of terminator selected from water, alcohols, inorganic acids and organic acids and a stabilizer to a solution of the resulting block copolymer or hydrogenated product therefrom. Thence, a solution of the copolymer with a concentration of 10-60wt.% is subjected to steam stripping, in the presence of 0.1-1,000ppm of a phosphoric ester such as polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether phosphate and/or alkali metal salt therefrom, at temperatures higher than the boiling point of the hydrocarbon solvent or azeotropic temperature of said solvent plus water but <=120 deg.C to convert into a crumb-like slurry followed by dehydration to the water content of 1-30wt.% and then drying to the water content of <1wt.%, thus obtaining the objective copolymer with the Li residue of <=40ppm and the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon content of 5-95wt.%.
