Abstract

PURPOSE:To heighten the transmission efficiency of the steering force, which is transmitted from an actuator to the right and left rear wheels, by putting the axis or rotation of a driven gear within an acute angle formed by the axis of rotation of a driving gear and the direction of the tooth-trace of both driving and driven gears. CONSTITUTION:A ball nut 41 is threadedly engaged with the outer periphery of a relay rod 23 via a ball. The ball nut 41 is supported by a housing 24 via bearings 42a and 42b in such a manner that the nut 41 can rotate but it is not allowed to move in the axial direction. A driven gear 46 is fixed on the outer periphery of the ball nut 41 by means of a screw. Twist angle beta1, which is formed by the axis of rotation L1 of a driving gear 36 and the direction L3 of the tooth trace of both driven gears 36 and 46, is set at an angle of about 80 deg. to 85 deg., which is larger than the friction angle of this gear mechanism. In addition, the axis of rotation L2 of the driven gear 46 is situated within the acute angle formed by both axes L1 and L3. For example, twist angle beta2 is set at an angle of 0 deg. to 75 deg., while shaft angle beta3 at about 10 deg..
