Abstract

PURPOSE:To cool a high temp. furnace quickly in a quenching stage while maintaining high heating efficiency of the high temp. furnace by inserting a cooling member contg. cooling liquid in the inside of the member into the fur nace through an opening part to atmospheric air. CONSTITUTION:A high temp. furnace is cooled naturally for a specified time by stopping supply of electricity to a heater 4 at first, when a high temp. furnace of several kinds having an opening part to atmospheric air such as wire drawing furnace of optical fiber, or pulling furnace of semiconductor is to be cooled. When the furnace temp. attains <=m.p. of the cooling member 20, the cooling member 20 is located at just above a furnace core tube 2, then the cooling member 20 is inserted into the furnace core tube 2 by driving a motor 27. Thus, a large quantity of heat is transferred to the cooling member 20 from the furnace core tube 2 by radiation, convection, or conduction, and the heat is brought out of the furnace by the cooling water passing through the cooling member 20. Moreover, since a diameter of fins 24 of the cooling member 20 is a little smaller than the inside diameter of the furnace core tube 2, the heat is transferred smoothly, and the furnace 1 is cooled quickly from its inside.
