Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the cost and improve the reliability by providing a rotary disk with three specific kinds of slits. CONSTITUTION:The rotary disk 1 is provided with slits A and B for generating a 90 deg. phase difference signal, a slit C stored with the absolute position of an angle of rotation as series data, and a slit D stored with an identification signal for series data adjacent to the series data. Then a bidirectional shift register 7 is provided which inputs the output of the slit C and converts the series signal into a parallel signal, and a parallel signal from the register 7 is stored by a latch circuit 8, whose output is inputted to an adder subtracter 9. Consequent ly, even if the resolution is improved, the number of slits need not be increased, so the cost of the absolute encoder is reduced and the reliability is improved.
