Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title polymer excellent in heat resistance, radiation resistance, electrical properties, flame retardancy, etc., by reacting an organic diissocyanate with an organic polycarboxylic acid (anhydride) in the presence of an alkali metal compound in a specified solvent. CONSTITUTION:An N,N-dimethylalkyleneurea (e.g., N,N'-dimethylethyleneurea) which has been optionally treated with a dehydrating agent such as molecular sieve or alumina is stored in an atmosphere of an inert gas (e.g., N2) of a purity >=99.9% and a dew point <=-65 deg.C to obtain a solvent (D). An organic diisocyanate (A) (e.g., tolylene 2,4-diisocyanate) is reacted with 0.7-1.30mol., per mol. of component A, of a polycarboxylic acid (anhydride) (B) (e.g., terephthalic acid) in the presence of an alkali metal compound (C) (e.g., KF) in component D at room temperature to 250 deg.C for 1-20hr.
