Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate an irregularity in a characteristic by a method wherein active charcoal obtained by continuously carbonizing and activating a long activator to be carbonized of a woven fabric or a nonwoven fabric in a vertical-type activating furnace is used as an electrode. CONSTITUTION:An apparatus is constituted by the following: a furnace chamber 3 which has an opening at the upper part and the lower part; a supply device 1 to supply a fabric-like activator to be carbonized; a device 5 to take up generated fabric- like active charcoal; a roller 2; an activating gas supply device 4; a hermetically sealed box 6 to prevent the outside air from entering the furnace chamber 3; a device 7 to burn a decomposed gas generated when the activator to be carbonized has been carbonized and kept alive inside the furnace. A muffle furnace 3a is constituted in such a way that a space to be carbonized and kept alive is shut off from the outside air. Water vapor is generated by a heating operation using the heater 3. A definite quantity of water vapor is generated while nitrogen as an inert gas generates a bubble from a bomb 8 in water of a definite temperature inside the thermostatic tank 7 by using the device 4; a heat-resisting fabric 9 to suck up water composed of a glass fabric or the like is brought into contact with a heater 10; the electric power for the heater is controlled by using a power supply 11; a quantity of water vapor is controlled.
